John, The Book of Revelation, and Mushrooms
Where the book of Revelation of written has a lot to do with it's context it may seem. Definitely the reason why John was on this island had an influence in his vision of the future. It also echoes other parts of the bible.
I'm here today to talk about the mushrooms on said island and the idea of spirituality and the magic mushroom.
"John wrote the Book of Revelation while he was on the island of Patmos, an Aegean island where he was exiled due to anti-Christian persecution under the Roman emperor Domitian. This location is widely accepted among biblical historians and is significant in the context of the text."
Here is a blog post from the actual people who take care of this island and the fact that John may have eaten magic mushrooms.
Now for the sake of this blog, I'm going to assume that he consumed the mushrooms. I'm also going to look at my own belief in the Christian Bible in a light that some Christians won't find in good taste at all, but I think it is in the context I will give.
First I have to think that he did consume the mushrooms. The telling's he penned are just the kind of thing you see when you are not having a good time on a psychedelic trip.
I believe that God has lead me to situations and people all my life. At times this is by the means of things that I did not like happening to me at the time or may still not like that they happened. But these where important for either myself or the other person at the time.
So why would it be, in that light, unreasonable for God to make John end up in a cave that the entry is covered in psychedelic mushrooms, and that he would by the guidance of God consume them?
Now here is the part where strict Christians are going to get annoyed with me.
I think that a psychedelic experience in the right context can be extremely important to the person spiritually. It is in my mind a certainty as I've experienced this first hand.
If God would use a person randomly changing their mind in the direction they are walking one day, in order to save the life of a person who has an important thing to do later in their life - why would God now use these mushrooms as a tool to give the vivid visions to John. Then John using these visions in the context of texts that he knows, crates the book that is the most famous part of the Bible.
I honestly think that God does things to make us see what God wants us to see at times. So this is very much a possibility to me.
This is also not in context of the actual Bible. There may be a rare text out there that talks of the use of this tool in seeing Gods visions, but I doubt it actually. Not in any Christian library anyway.
But I've had experiences well outside the norm of an average Christian, so I can see it happening.
We also don't know for sure that the shrooms where even there at the time John was, we just know they are there now.
I believe that God uses tools (people and things) to do his work with us. So to me it's a valid explanation.
Something to think about🤔
