My New Cuisinox Moka Pot

1. My friend Earth sent me the Moka pot I had in my Amazon Wishlist. I'm very grateful to have it, as the old one died (seal went) and I could not get parts to fix it. I'm very happy to have this. I was going to get one next month, but it would have been 2 weeks until I could get one and that long without a nice strong mug of coffee is a horrible fate to say the least. The French press makes coffee, but it's very much NOT strong and lacks the rich flavor that comes out of the Moka pot.

2. There she is, it's bigger than the old one but is supposed to make the same amount of coffee (9 espresso cups).

3. Here it is with the water in the base like you are supposed to do. It does indeed hold slightly more water than the old one does.

4. Nicely filled with Lavazza Rosa coffee (espresso). You don't want to over-fill it, just a bit from the top and don't pack it too tight. I wish I had one of those whisk tools for this task, they tend to make it slightly better, as it takes all the clumps out before you pack it a bit.

5. Here it is on the stove. People with a gas stove will notice, it doe not sound the same as on an electric stove for some reason. It makes a gurgling sound when it's brewing on the electric, but on the gas, it only makes that sound just before it's done I'm told (and from seeing video). The electric stove seems to make it a bit faster as well. One would think that the gas would be just as hot, but I guess not.

6. Here is a shot of the brand name (Cuisinox). I've not owned one before. The last was a different brand and the one before it a different one from either this or the last one.

7. All 3 of the brands of Moka pot I've owned did the same thing. As it's brewing, there will be a slight drip down the back of it from the lid. It runs down past the handle and makes a nice fizzing sound as it hits the very hot base and boils. The last one did it way worse I have to say. When the seal went on the old one, it ended up with black gunk all over the base, as the coffee was shooting out the sides past the ring that is supposed to prevent that.

8. A nice strong cup of rich flavorful coffee to enjoy. It's been about a week, and I was super glad to get a drink of proper coffee for a change. I seriously enjoyed my cup of coffee.

Note: these are billed as "espresso makers" - although it kind of does just that, technically, you need 9 bars of pressure to be officially called an espresso maker, and it does not produce that much pressure. An actual espresso machine makes stronger and richer brew than these do. But, you can take this camping with you, and you probably will have an issue with an espresso maker in a wilderness camp.
