Mother of Flies (2025) Review

Did a video, but it does not do this movie justice. So I'm doing it in text instead, as I seem to express better this way.

The opening scene of the movie is disturbing, and disguising. It is also beautiful in a dark and twisted manner. There are several moments of dark and disturbing beauty in this movie.

The "Mother of Flies" is a Necromancer. She can trick death and even bring freshly dead things back to life. She also has the ability to cure the incurable.

It starts with a father driving his daughter to the home of the witch to be healed of her cancer. Although you don't know this fully until later one, but there are clues.

The mother died of cancer when she was very young, and she has little memory of it. But she does have the bitter experiences of her treatment for a cancer that can't be cured. The tumor is inoperable.

The timeline is 3 days and in this time the witch does things to fix the girl but it is clear it is also up to the girl to believe it will work. Although this is uncertain in the end if you pay attention.

There is a history of the witch that goes back hundreds of years and we see her being murdered for bringing back a dead baby. This links to the ending of this movie BTW and you should remember this part.

She full on doses the father and he goes through a personal hell in the process but his eyes are opened in the end.

There is a terrible beauty to all of this and the speeches of the witch are poetic to say the least.

Near the end, it full on should give you a hint what is going to happen in the end and the state of this witch. It is full on given away before the end and you see why the witch attracted the girl in her dreams at the end.

I became emotional several times in the movie. Not full on crying, but I teared up a bit. It was a work of art in my mind and unlike many other movies ever made. The dialog is more important and so is the narration, than the action in this one, so pay attention to what is said.

IMDB has it at 5.4/10 and I'm giving it a perfect 10/10 - I was blown away by this to say the least. I found it on AMC+, but if you wonder into this years later it might not be there anymore.

Remembering The Trauma - Cancer Took My Mom (Trigger Warning)

Cancer took my Mom from me and it was so horrible to watch happen. I was there every day while she was in the care home. I did not abandon her like so many people have done in our society. I was deeply pained that she needed to be in a care home - It hurt me to the soul. But she needed and deserved more care than I could possibly give her. I was just not physically able to take care of her any more and her medical needs were too great to be at home. Below is the difference in her appearance in just 2 years. It did get worse by the end.
