June Blogging Challenge Day 20
Who is the teacher you're most grateful for?
Mrs. Carrack. This might be cheating, because she was the librarian. But she gave me an amazing love for reading, that I probably would not have had if it was not for her. Because of her, I got an award for reading 100 books in a school year. I also did a book report on every last one of them. That is a book every 1.9 days (190 days in a school year here in Canada). I like to think of her as my literary teacher. Sure these books where kids books, but they where an adventure to me. I got the first read of a lot of books from her - when they came in, I got to read them first. Like the next person I will mention, I would spend time after school was over and talk with this wonderful lady. I also helped with putting books on the shelves and opening boxes for her. She had an issue with her fingers and the boxes that had those locking tabs on them where impossible for her to open. Many years later I saw her at the Co-op cafeteria and she mentioned the boxes.
As for an actual teacher, Madame Delaysac. She taught us French and art classes. I sucked at French class, but I was good in the art class. I was so pissy with her. If you got all of the questions correct on a test, you got a 99% - because "no one is perfect". But she gave me a life long love of art in many forms. She was nice enough to talk to me after school ours about all kinds of art - telling me things we would not have learned in class. I learned of her adventures in her younger days and the wonderful things she saw. Almost no one liked her, but I sure did. Madame gave me a different view of the world. I would never be a great artist, but I will always have an appreciation for the beauty of art, and the powerful messages it can give.
On a side note - in high school, I was all kinds of infatuated with the one gym teacher - but that's a different story.
