Who do you consider family?

Since my family that cared about me is all dead now, I consider my close group of friends to be family. They support me when I need it, and I do the same for them. They make my life a lot better and I care for them deeply. What is left of my family (cousins and so on) all treat me like I'm dead. I was down to one cousin who sent out a Christmas letter once a year and nothing else. Then all the sudden that stopped. I'd sent her letters in the past and no reply was ever sent. I included my phone number (I could not find theirs, it must be unlisted) and no one ever called. Even cousins in my city won't talk to me. If they see me when I'm out, they go out of their way to not come close to me and avoid me altogether. My friends on the other hand treat me like a brother and I appreciate them a lot.
