11:11 Reminds Me of My Mom (God Rest Her Soul)

In 3 days my Mom will have been dead for 13 years to the day. Every time I see 11:11 I think of her. She believed the thing about 11:11 being a sign that an angel was looking out for you. It seems that it comes up on my phone kind of a lot, but in reality, I probably am just noticing it more, and not remembering other times I see.

Mom was a superstitious person to say  the least. There are just too many things to list that she thought to be real, even though common sense and logic would dictate otherwise. For example, if your palm itched, you where going to get money. If this was true, I'd be getting money handed to me every other day LOL. It has literally never happened that I had an itchy palm, and money came my way any time soon.

If she spilled the salt, she would toss a pinch of it over her shoulder to stop the devil somehow from getting to her. If you sneezed, she would say, "Bless You" - because she thought a demon could get in if you sneeze. She had a little cloth bag of "lucky pennies" that she had found over the years - none of them where worth anything, so I just gave them away when she went into a care home.

I don't remember the many things she believed about the sky though - but I remember there was a bunch of them. Rainbows, certain types of clouds, shooting stars - you name it, they all had some kind of meaning to her.

Then there was the, "birthday spanking" LOL. She would make sure Dad did this on my birthday until I was a bloody teen. You got a slap for every year you have been alive and "one to grow on" - It was just a light tap, but it had meaning to her, as it would "give me luck" for the rest of the year. I have no idea why turning 13 stopped the tradition, but it did. There must be something about that age, where I no longer needed it to her thinking.

It's kind of amazing because she was very religious, yet believed in all this stuff. Maybe it was part of her Catholic upbringing or something? I don't have a clue. But in any event, I was reminded of Mom this morning  when I looked at my lock screen. I miss her a lot. We where very close.

  1. Your Mom sounds like my grandma. She would say the weirdest things sometimes and did some things like your mom. I loved her dearly. She would have these saying I didn't understand, but as I got older ,I understood what she meant by them. You should of kept the pennies 😊❤️
