3 Good Movies In My Mailbox
Phantasm (1979) is my second all time favourite movie. It's also the movie I have seen the most times. I would estimate I've seen it around 100 times over the years. I had it first on VHS and played it so many times it stopped working. I also have seen it several times on the big screen (mostly the drive-in).
Basically a teenage boy goes to battle with a grave robbing dude known only as The Tall Man. The movie leaves a lot of speculation as to why they are taking the dead but you are lead to believe that they are using them as slaves in another dimension.
There are 5 movies in total and you don't really know what is going on until #5 (2016). But I find the only one I really liked was the original movie.
Interesting speculation is that the internet legend "The Slender Man" was based on The Tall Man. There is a The resemblance is obvious.
The Andromeda Strain (1971) is another movie I have loved since the first time I saw it. Many times I have watch this as "the late movie" on TV. I've never seen it on the big screen though as it's before my time of movie going.
The plot is basically the military has collected a form of life from outer space and the probe landed in a small town. The town is dead when the scientists get there. They then determine that the life form is alien and some kind of virus. They then try to find a cure for it before it can spread around the world and kill everyone. The interesting part of the virus is it turns the blood to crystal.
There have been many legends over the years of the military actually having this kind of virus but fearing using it as they have never found a cure for it. In fact some variations tell that the moon landings never happened and instead they where out looking for something to use as a weapon.
It Came From Outer Space (1953) Was long before my time but I have actually seen this on on the big screen at a retro movie night long ago in the 1990's.
The plot in this movie reoccurs many times in Sci-Fi history. A space ship lands in the Arizona Desert and people in a small town start to act out of sorts. The only ones who can figure it all out before it's too late are an armature astronomer who saw the object fall from the sky and a schoolteacher.
I would like to thank my friend Max for sending me these movies. You know what I love :)
